On Wednesday, São Paulo announced the comeback of Lucas Moura. With the player leaving Tottenham Hotspur at the end of his contract, he signed a short-term deal with the Brazilian side.
When the agreement was made official, it seemed like he didn’t have many offers to stay in European football. But now it turns out that, according to his agent, Wolverhampton Wanderers were trying to keep him in the Premier League.
That was revealed by Junior Pedroso, Moura’s agent, who had a chat with UOL journalist Perrone.
The representative named all clubs who made bids after Moura’s contract in the Premier League expired, and Wolves were one of those that was ‘not considered interesting’.
“Wolverhampton, Monterrey and Los Angeles FC were on the table,” he said.
Lucas Moura was supposed to join Los Angeles FC and get loaned to São Paulo, but due to the little time until the end of the Brazilian window, he decided to sign directly with the South American side, on a deal until the end of the year.
He’s joining a team with some stars, including Rafinha, Jonathan Calleri, James Rodriguez and Alexandre Pato, so there’s actually a chance he can win a good title in this short period at the club.
That’s why Pedroso now highlights how happy Moura is with the choice, not regretting turning Wolves down.
“Lucas is very happy to have returned to São Paulo. The love he has for the club is impressive. We went to the training centre and, when we got there, he started to shake with emotion. very anxious.”
