Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United were both interested in signing Armand Laurienté this summer, according to his agent.
Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, representative Roberto Meloni revealed that the player was chased by several European sides in the last transfer window.
The representative started by confirming that Laurienté could leave Sassuolo next summer.
“I think so, although it will depend on his performance this year. We already had a lot of interest in him, but on a growth level we didn’t feel like leaving Sassuolo for the sake of change. It doesn’t make sense for us.”
Then asked about the clubs who were interested in him, he revealed that Tottenham and West Ham were two of the clubs who made contact, but found no big desire from the player to move.
“Bayer Leverkusen liked him instead of Diaby. Then there was interest from Tottenham and it is no mystery that Giuntoli likes him, if he had stayed at Napoli… In the Premier League there was an attempt by West Ham, but he wants to get to an important level, preferring a second season at Sassuolo to confirm himself. He’s growing well with Dionisi, he’s getting on very well. Of course, next year he is on the list of departures with offers of a high level.”
Sassuolo spent €10m to sign Laurienté from FC Lorient in the summer of 2022. So far, he has eight goals and seven assists in 34 appearances for the Serie A side.
With a good first season in Italy, his valuation on Transfermarkt has already gone to €18m, and he may be right in staying at the club for another year to prove he deserves a big move.
Now the more Tottenham and West Ham wait to make a bid for him, it’s likely he’ll get more expensive and draw bigger competition for his signing.
