Iván Fresneda’s development at Real Valladolid this season has seen him attract attention from several clubs across Europe, including Arsenal.
Last month, multiple reports coming out of Spain and Italy stated the Gunners wanted to sign the right-back in the winter market.
The January window closed on Tuesday and Arsenal, or any other club for that matter, were not able to take the 18-year-old away from the La Liga side.
Fresneda’s agent, Luis Bardají, was the guest on AS’ YouTube channel on deadline day. He revealed 30 teams have shown interest in his client, but none of them tabled an offer.
“…in the Spanish league there has been a club interested in Iván, but the truth is that he has hardly aroused interest in Spanish football, but in Germany, France or England there has been interest,” Bardají said.
“Some because they had a specific need in this market and others with a vision of the future, but times are what they are.”
“Fresneda will be at Real Valladolid until the end of the season. We want him to have his feet on the ground and in other teams he was not going to have the continuity he needs now.”
Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund were among the two clubs who were repeatedly pushed forward as his main contenders. AS asked the agent specifically about Mikel Arteta’s side and BVB.
Responding to that, he said: “They are two great clubs, of which we can have favourable opinions about them, they give opportunities to young talents.”
“Yes, there has been a situation that Iván has been able to go out on loan, Valladolid has three great right-backs, it is the only position that is tripled, there could be concern. The club valued the option that Iván could leave, not because of a lack of confidence, but so that he would have more market possibilities.”
Bardají further claims the decision to continue at Valladolid was made last weekend and also talked about what he wishes for Fresneda in the future.
“Over the weekend we already informed Real Valladolid that there was not going to be any offer, that he was not going to come out in the winter market,” the agent explained.
“For us it is not a bad situation, no drama, quite the opposite. Iván is happy to play for Real Valladolid, to be under the orders of Pacheta, who is the one who has allowed him to enjoy the way he is doing now.”
“If one day he has to leave we would like it to be a historic sale for the club.”
