Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rúben Neves continues to be named as a transfer target for Barcelona.
Mundo Deportivo state the Spanish club are looking for a new midfielder to replace Sergio Busquets and are not closing the door on a potential deal in January.
The Wolves player is managed by Jorge Mendes, who has close ties with the La Liga side’s president, Joan Laporta.
There is total consensus among Barca’s sporting leaders and the coaching staff to sign Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi or anyone else apart from the Portugal international, but Laporta is insisting on Neves, who has a contract at Wolves until 2024.
Mendes has maintained that he can take his client away from Julen Lopetegui’s side for an ‘affordable’ price, while the midfielder is also willing to accept a salary in accordance with Barca’s financial situation.
The Catalan club’s sporting leaders took Laporta’s ‘recommendation seriously’, which is why their scouts are following Neves closely while in action for Wolves.
However, Mundo have found out there isn’t a single report from these viewings that suggests Neves would be a good addition for Barcelona at this moment in time.
In fact, the sporting leaders argue his addition wouldn’t improve the current situation because ‘he needs another player at his side as he has always played as a double pivot’.
Laporta, on the other hand, continues to believe that signing the Wolves midfielder can be a good operation, both economic and sporting wise.
In addition to this, Laporta feels Neves’ addition would also help the club in renewing the contract of Alejandro Balde, who is also a client of Mendes.
