It’s time for the French media to talk a little about Lyon’s attempt of hijacking Wolverhampton Wanderers’ deal with Flamengo for the transfer of João Gomes.
Outlet L’Equipe today features a story with a few details on this chase, confirming that the Ligue 1 side have someone in Rio de Janeiro working on that.
That’s agent Túlio de Melo, who’s said to be trying to cancel the midfielder’s move to Wolves by “scoring a golden goal in stoppage time”.
Lyon already did their part by offering more than the Molineux side. They’re said to be putting €17m plus €2m on the table, while the Premier League club’s bid was of €15m plus €2m.
Just like in the reports from Brazil, it’s said the task is not easy because the player ‘already come to an agreement’ with Wolves.
So the French side now try to use other arguments, such as an easier adaptation, as other Brazilian midfielders such as Lucas Paquetá and Bruno Guimarães previously managed to succeed there.
L’Equipe even features some quotes from Lyon’s chief scout Bruno Cheyrou, who confirmed their intention of signing Gomes.
“He’s a player we’ve been watching for a year and a half. Before, the timing was not good. Financially, we could not go there. Now (with the arrival of John Textor as their new owner), a window has opened and we are trying to rush in. This player, I like him very much and it would be a sweet dream to recruit him.”
