Newcastle United may soon be missing out on the signing of Youssoufa Moukoko from Borussia Dortmund.
The fact that the youngster’s contract with the Bundesliga side expires at the end of the season is the main reason why many clubs, including the Magpies, have been hopeful of landing him soon.
The problem is that, according to Sport, his agent has been holding meetings to find an agreement for a new deal.
Representative Patrick Williams reportedly arrived in Marbella, where Borussia Dortmund are having a training camp, to speak about that extension.
It’s said the renewal ‘could be close’, as following the club’s attempts to extend his deal, a counter-offer with his requests has already been made. That includes a ‘more or less affordable’ release clause for the 18-year-old.
Moukoko’s situation not only made him a target for Newcastle, with Sport mentioning interest from Barcelona, Chelsea and Everton as well.
Now despite recent stories which said the Magpies had made a ‘verbal contract offer’ for the signing, it seems he could soon be tied to a new contract, and any interested club will need to spend a lot more to sign him from Borussia Dortmund.
