Real Betis have rekindled their interest in Leeds United’s Marc Roca, according to Estadio Deportivo.
The midfielder has been a regular for the Whites since he joined them from Bayern Munich last summer.
Prior to agreeing a deal with Leeds, the La Liga side were keen on securing his services. Manuel Pellegrini had given a green signal but the deal didn’t go through because of Betis’ financial constraints. In the end, the Premier League side took the Spaniard for €12m.
Los Verdiblancos new sporting director Ramón Planes is now leading their transfer pursuit and recent claims stated they have reactivated contacts with the 26-year-old’s camp.
ED got in touch with Roca’s agent, who ‘admits’ Betis have contacted them and the option to join Betis is ‘very much to the player’s liking’. There are no negotiations or advances from Pellegrini’s side at the moment.
Roca had Víctor Orta and Javi Gracia as his ‘great supporters’. Their exit ‘generates some distrust’ in the player, who has a release clause, if Leeds were to be relegated. They are 19th in the table, two points behind 17th placed Everton, with one game to go.
After last summer’s failure, ‘stars could align’ for Betis to sign Roca in the next window. It needs to be seen whether Leeds will sanction a move, if they are to avoid relegation.
