For the past few days, reports from Italy and Argentina have stated Newcastle United are showing interest in Fiorentina’s Nicolás González.
Earlier this week, TuttoMercatoWeb stated the Magpies have had a video call with the 24-year-old’s agent.
On Wednesday, Marca in Argentina reported Newcastle have made a €30m bid to sign the forward, but their offer was turned down by the Serie A side.
Fiorentina chief Joe Barone has insisted his side have no intention to sell the Argentina international in the current window.
La Viola have rejected offers for the player, but Calciomercato states there is a ‘scenario that can change everything’.
Newcastle and Leicester City are González’s suitors, and selling him in January could result in a backlash from a section of the Italian club’s supporters. At the same time, ‘nothing is certain’ until the transfer window closes, and Fiorentina are aware of this.
The report states if a club arrives with a €50m bid and offers €4-5m per year salary to the South American, Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso would ‘hardly have the strength to for a new refusal’.
Newcastle have seen their €30m bid rejected by the Italian club. With Calciomercato now suggesting Fiorentina may find it hard to refuse a €50m offer, it remains to be seen whether Eddie Howe’s side will return with an improved proposal to sign González.
