Denzel Dumfries’ €25m release clause, which activates in July, has Inter Milan worried as Liverpool maintain a strong effort for the Dutchman.
That’s according to journalist Niccolò Ceccarini on Tuttomercatoweb. He covers the full-back today and Inter Milan’s fears as Liverpool linger.
According to his information, Inter need to ‘fend off the onslaught’ from European giants for their players this summer.
Dumfries is one of the players attracting interest. He returned to action against Bodo after a three‑and‑a‑half‑month injury layoff, and Liverpool remain interested after pursuing him during the January transfer window.
Liverpool January efforts
That’s something Sport Witness covered extensively at the time. A report towards the end of January had them putting a call in for the 29-year-old.
A deal never happened but a separate report after that explained that they were eyeing a €25m deal for the Dutchman. That’s thanks to a release clause in his current deal at Inter activating in the summer.
Ceccarini expands on that, reporting that clubs can activate the release clause throughout July. It applies only to this summer.Clubs such as Liverpool view the figure as affordable.
Reds summer interest
It certainly doesn’t protect Inter, who are concerned about the ‘strong’ interest the Reds have shown in the full back. Arne Slot’s side continue to make efforts for him.
They would, ideally, sign Dumfries to a new deal and get rid of the release clause. But there’s no sign of that happening as yet.
And that gives Liverpool their opportunity to move in. They remain keen, despite reports that Slot blocked the deal at the last minute.
The right-back spot has been a problem for them this season, with Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley hampered with injuries throughout the campaign. Dumfries is available to solve that, for a figure which certainly has Inter Milan worried.
