Back at the weekend, reports from Portugal claimed that Chelsea would have a scout watching Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres on Monday night.

The Lions faced Porto in a very important league game, and the centre-forward once again left his mark, scoring a goal in the 2-0 win.

After the match, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim was asked about the importance Gyokeres has at Sporting. And quoted by A Bola, the coach ended up mentioning Chelsea’s interest in the player.

“I think he’s improved the team, the fans like him a lot. We have to look at the other side: today there’s talk that Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in him. He was in England, right next to them, in the Championship. Sporting have improved Gyokeres and Gyokeres has improved Sporting, he’s brought a new energy,” said Amorim.

“[Interest from other clubs] It affects all players, I can feel it sometimes in Inácio, I can feel it in other players and Viktor is no exception.”

Gyokeres now has 17 goals and eight assists in 20 appearances this season, and is leading Sporting on top of the league table so far.

Those stats are only making it more and more clear that the Lions made a great deal when signing him for just €20m from Coventry City last summer.

It’s been many times said that the Lions don’t want to lose him in the middle of the season, so Chelsea would only be able to sign him in the winter if his €100m release clause is triggered.

In case they want a discount, they better wait for the summer.
