Bought by Chelsea in January, Malo Gusto agreed to end the season on loan at Lyon, who pushed for him to stay for another six months.
The player, however, has struggled to play due to injury, and there has been a lot of confusion over his situation, with the Ligue 1 side often making a point of saying they weren’t really sure what was going on with the recovery.
Gusto decided to clear some of that up himself on Wednesday during a press conference now that he’s back to playing, and, relayed by L’Equipe on Thursday, the Chelsea loanee was pretty open about it all.
He started off by explaining that he did half of his recovery with the Blues and half with the Ligue 1 side, and contrary to popular belief, ‘there have been regular exchanges between the two clubs’.
What didn’t help was that the injury was ‘more serious’ than originally though, with it being a ‘grade 3 injury’ to his left hamstring, which took ‘longer than expected’ to recover from.
Then, the Chelsea player went on to describe how he lived through it all: “A lot of false things have been said. The duration of my injury, it affected me mentally. When you are the child of the club, when you always want to give your all for OL and they say you are delaying your return to save yourself for Chelsea… That was not the case at all.”
