Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen has been warned against joining Burnley in the summer transfer window, as Vincent Kompany and his team could end up at Tottenham.
That’s according to former Anderlecht goalkeeping coach Frank Boeckx, who has warned the highly-rated goalkeeper to wait on a decision on his future in case the Belgian swapped Turf Moor for Tottenham.
Verbruggen has established himself as one of the rising stars in Belgium this season with a series of impressive performances for Anderlecht as their new number one.
That has seen interest in him steadily increasing, with several big sides in Europe all thought to be keeping an eye on him ahead of the summer.
He has remained keen ever since, with it believed that he could return at the end of this season once they are promoted to the Premier League.
Boeckx believes Verbruggen should wait on a possible move, though, particularly while Kompany is being heavily linked with the manager’s job at Tottenham.
“Vincent and Jelle know his qualities and I could easily understand that Bart would want to work with them again,” he told Le Soir.
“But what is the assurance that they are still at Burnley while Kompany is cited at Tottenham? I learned that in Ghent.
“I signed for Victor Fernandez. Three months later, he was fired. You have to sign where both the club and the coach want you. That’s my advice.
“You also have to be sure that you are part of the project. Going to Arsenal today is the assurance of being number two behind Ramsdale which is number two in England and will be protected by the press. Even if it’s Arsenal, it’s not the best option.”
