Hull City’s Premier League dreams
Hull take on Millwall in the first leg of their play-off semi-final on Friday, at home, before the second leg at the Den next week. they will then face Middlesbrough or Southampton in the final.
The Tigers snuck into the play-offs on the final day of the season as three clubs had the chance to secure last place on the day.
All three sides, Hull, Wrexham and Derby County occupied the place at one point in the afternoon, but it was Ilıcalı’s side who prevailed thanks to a win over Norwich City. They had to come from a goal down to secure all three points.
Now they could end up in the Premier League. And Ilıcalı is planning a big reward if his players manage it.
“If Hull City gets promoted to the Premier League, I’m sending the entire team to Las Vegas on a private plane. That will be their reward,” he said on a live broadcast on TV8.
Ollie McBurnie praise
There was also time for praise for Oli McBurnie, the undoubted star in this current Hull City team. It was his two goals which secured the Norwich win and, a place in the play-offs.
The 29-year-old has 17 goals and eight assists in 37 games in the Championship this season. That saw him share second place in the top scorers charts with Hadji Wright and six behind Žan Vipotnik.
The Hull star, though, has more assists than both combined and a better goals per 90 ratio. Ilıcalı is a big fan, and convinced he’d shine in the Turkish Super Lig.
“If Oli McBurnie were at Fenerbahçe, he wouldn’t score less than 25 goals,” he added.
“He scores whatever comes his way. His characteristic is that he scores if the ball comes to him. Some of the goals he scores aren’t natural goal
