Had Leeds United never made an offer for Charles De Ketelaere then it’s possible, maybe even likely, that he’d been an AC Milan player right now.
However, the Whites’ placing a bid of around €37m continues to be a problem for the Rossoneri. On Tuesday, Club Brugge held a meeting with the Serie A side, but it was quickly made clear there’d been no progress.
Wednesday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport reports the situation ‘does not unlock’, with both sides being stubborn in negotiations. Club Brugge aren’t happy at having to ‘give up’ the €37m from Leeds United, regardless of the player’s desire to move to the Italian champions instead.
They therefore want something close to that figure, and Milan haven’t yet achieved it.
Corriere state there will be another attempt soon but if there’s no significant progress then Milan will need to ‘change the objective’ and move for other targets instead.
That would open the road for Leeds United again, despite all the Italian claims the player isn’t prepared to sign for the Yorkshire club.
It’s worth noting again how similar this is to the Sven Botman situation, with it being claimed for months in Italy that the Dutchman didn’t want a move to Newcastle United and only had eyes for Milan.
He went on to sign for the Magpies after they were the only club to agree a fee with Lille.
