Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson seems to be quite annoyed about the Premier League’s Player of the Season award.
Even though Pep Guardiola’s side seem well represented by Phil Foden and Erling Haaland in the list of nominees, the Brazilian thinks there’s another teammate who should be there.
That was said this week in an interview with ESPN Brasil, during which Ederson showed his discontent about the award.
“I see Rodri as a great candidate who isn’t on the list. I don’t understand why… It’s unacceptable!” said Ederson.
“If you look at his year, his campaign, the last few seasons… And he’s not on the list. It’s absurd, I don’t know what criteria they use to nominate players.
“There are some great names in the running, but Rodri is a great candidate to win and unfortunately he’s not on the list.”
The goalkeeper’s interview is part of ESPN’s coverage for tonight’s match between the Citizens and Tottenham Hotspur, which could be decisive for the Premier League title race. That match is receiving widespread coverage around the world’s sport media, as is the general fight for the league.
Ederson also talked about Manchester City’s focus on winning the final two matches in the competition, insisting the squad has enough experience to know what they need to do now.
“Everyone here knows how important the final straight is. You don’t need many words because everyone realises how important this moment is. We could be the first team to win four Premier Leagues in a row. You don’t need many words at times like this. Just living these moments is enough.”
Following tonight’s game, Manchester City will be facing West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. There’s also the FA Cup final against Manchester United the following weekend.
