During the summer, Luka Vušković arrived at Tottenham Hotspur after they agreed a deal with Hajduk Split in September 2023. Spurs sanctioned a loan move to Hamburg SV to help the youngster’s development.

The centre-back wanted to join HSV because his brother Mario is there.

Mario is serving a doping ban and can’t return until next season. The Tottenham man is keen to play with his brother and has made this clear on several occasions. He mentioned it in October and reiterated it last month. Indeed, given the chance, 18-year-old Luka would reiterate that desire every day.

Over the weekend, there were claims in the UK and elsewhere that a Hamburg stay is already agreed. Tottenham were said to have relented and given their approval.

Hamburger Abendblatt relays that and shares their own take on this possibility. HSV supporters had got excited, and their flame has now been extinguished.

As it stands, Tottenham haven’t made a decision on where the defender will play next season. Spurs will only decide in the summer, and Hamburg sources have told their local newspaper that any claims of an agreement being in place are nonsense.

Tottenham agreement simply not in place

Hamburger Abendblatt believe the latest claims have been manufactured to farm attention. A stay is a possibility, so claiming there’s an agreement for that is a reasonable risk to appear informed. However, Hamburg completely deny it.

For a stay to even be possible, HSV, currently five points away from the danger zone, will have to avoid relegation. Should Tottenham decide to send Vušković on loan again, they won’t be sending him to the second division in Germany.

Vušković has played 18 matches for the Bundesliga side this season. His progress has been rapid and HSV could provide another year of that in theory, depending on how Tottenham see things.

Regardless, it’s not yet agreed, and there’s ‘absolutely no truth’ in claims otherwise.
