Stoke City goalkeeper Viktor Johansson started for Sweden in both their matches last month.

The 27-year-old has retained his place in the national team under new manager, Graham Potter.

Potter has confirmed the Stoke City man will be his first-choice stopper. Johansson is now with his national team, preparing for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Slovenia.

Fotbollskanalen have been speaking to the 27-year-old about the Championship side.

Last season, Stoke City endured a difficult campaign, finishing 18th. They had three permanent managers and Mark Robins, who joined the Potters in January, is currently in charge. Their situation has improved a lot this season.

Stoke City have enjoyed an impressive run under Robins. After eight wins after 15 matches, they are third in the table, two points behind second placed Middlesbrough and seven behind leaders Coventry City.

“Everyone went through a lot last last year” at Stoke City

Johansson has six clean sheets and has conceded 10 goals so far. He’s credited Robins and his staff for turning things around at Stoke City this season.

“It’s great fun. It’s a completely different feeling about the club and the city. It is also great that many are left from last year and start. Everyone went through a lot last year, when we fought and now, we see the results coming. It’s credit to the coaching team who came in and turned the ship around,” he said.

The Sweden international is confident of Stoke City fighting for promotion to the Premier League.

“Absolutely, 100%. Then it’s a very long season with a lot of games ahead. You have to take each game individually,” Johansson explained.

He dreams of playing in England’s top division, but clearly wants to do it with Stoke.

“Yes, that’s the dream,” he added.

“It would be incredibly fun to do it the hard way by getting promoted with a team. That would be great fun.”
