Newcastle United’s pursuit of Marc Guéhi has been a frustrating one for the Magpies, with Crystal Palace batting away increasingly large offers and likely asking more than what would be a fair market value.
That is entirely the Eagles’ right, with the defender a very important part of their team and key to the coming season. Oliver Glasner today spoke to the Austrian media and whilst he didn’t mention Guéhi by name, he made it clear Crystal Palace’s ambitions this season depend on what happens between now and the close of the window.
One of the alternatives to be linked with Newcastle United is Andreas Christensen. The defender joined Barcelona from Chelsea as a free agent and has had a reasonably good time at the Catalan club.
Mundo Deportivo cover Newcastle United interest and explain that given Christensen’s versatility, he can also play in the pivot, and injuries to Araujo, De Jong and Gavi, Barcelona just don’t want to sell him right now.
However, they need money so if Newcastle United were to make an offer ‘above €30m’ then there’d be temptation to sell the 28-year-old as a way to ease Barca’s latest financial problems.
