Coventry City will face competition from Stoke City in the race for Mjällby AIF’s Abdoulie Manneh, according to Fotboll Direkt.

Three days ago, Expressen reported Coventry City were in negotiations with the Swedish club for the 21-year-old. They also stated Frank Lampard’s side were hoping to close the deal in the next few weeks.

On Wednesday, Fotboll Direkt reported Mjällby AIF had paused negotiations for the winger’s potential sale until later in November. This was done to see if other clubs came forward.

That’s worked out as Stoke City have now joined their Championship rivals.

A fresh report from Fotboll Direkt covers the latest on Abdoulie Manneh.

The Gambia international has 11 goals and four assists from 58 matches since joining Mjällby AIF in 2024. Manneh’s performances have attracted interest from England, which could be his next destination.

According to the latest claims, Stoke City will soon make contact with a view to signing the player. Whether this is genuine interest or a Swedish attempt to pressure Coventry City remains to be seen.

Given that both the pause claim, and the Stoke City report, came from the same source it may be a case of Mjällby AIF playing transfer games.

Manneh has a contract until December 2027, and the report adds Mjällby AIF are demanding SEK 45m [€4.1m] to transfer him. It’s unclear whether Stoke City or Coventry City are willing to meet their request.
