Everton striker Beto would be a great fit for Gian Piero Gasperini at Roma, according to his former coach Luca Gotti.

He’s been speaking about the Everton striker today, in comments relayed by Tuttomercatoweb. Beto has been linked with a move to the Italian club this week.

Roma are likely to be in the market for a new striker in the January transfer window. Their current options have been deemed as less than ideal. They signed Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton in the summer, but his move has not worked out as planned.

There have also been reported that Brighton could recall him to cover for the loss Stefanos Tzimas for the rest of the season.

Beto could be his replacement, with a report making it clear he was on Roma’s shortlist. He’s found himself behind Thierno Barry at Everton this season, with David Moyes putting his faith in the youngster instead of the Guinea Bissau striker.

A deal between Everton and Roma could be easy to get done too, given both clubs are owned by the Friedkin family. Gotti, most recently in charge at Lecce, can see the move making sense, having worked with Beto in the past.

“I don’t think he’s Gasperini’s prototype player in terms of his technical characteristics,” he said.

“He’d perhaps prefer someone who links up the play more easily and then attacks the goal. He’s a top-notch lad, with an incredible desire to improve.

“At the end of training, he always asked to stay to do something and improve in every aspect. From that perspective, he would be a great fit for Gasperini.”
