When Dan Ndoye joined Nottingham Forest from Bologna, there was excitement around the deal. Things haven’t worked out and it appears as if the winger isn’t being missed in Italy.
So far this season, Ndoye has scored just one Premier League goal. That came on his debut and he also assisted in his second game of the season.
He hasn’t contributed to a single goal since then, failing to start a game in 2026. This led to Inter Milan trying to sign him in January, with Sport Witness covering Ndoye’s future extensively.
An exit was always going to be complicated at that point. Nottingham Forest were likely to be difficult to negotiate with, as they only signed the winger last summer.
With the season coming to an end, there’s a little Italian mockery being dished out.
Bologna don’t miss Ndoye at all
Il Resto del Carlino, a local newspaper, look at the Rossoblu’s campaign, noting that they aren’t where they would ideally want to be. They are unlikely to finish in a European spot, having been knocked out of the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
This is different to how things were at the end of last season. Ndoye had taken them to a Coppa Italia win, as Bologna won their first silverware in 51 years. The newspaper note how special the moment was but despite that, Ndoye ended up leaving.
He could’ve easily stayed and taken the club forward but decided against it. Il Resto emphasise how he is now a ‘regular on the bench’ at Nottingham Forest.
Even if Bologna have had an inconsistent campaign, they are happy with the money earned. That money can be used to rebuild after what has been a transitionary campaign. This will help them move on from Ndoye.
Deal reflects Bologna’s approach
The Rossoblu have acquired the tag of being a selling club that never hesitates in replacing their best players. They did the same for Joshua Zirkzee and Riccardo Calafiori, with Juan Miranda and Santiago Castro filling in well for the duo.
The same is true for Ndoye, as Jonathan Rowe has quite well in 2026. This process will keep repeating at Bologna, allowing them to continue operating high up in the Serie A table.
Ndoye, in the meantime, should seriously consider an exit. There has been a lack of stability at Nottingham Forest this season and injuries haven’t helped in recent weeks. A return to Italy will suit him and he can rebuild his career and then earn another big move later.
