Burnley’s Zeki Amdouni spent this season on loan at Benfica and wasn’t able to enjoy regular minutes. He played 1,365 minutes from 43 games, managing nine goals and three assists in the process.
The Portuguese press have stated the Eagles have no intention of activating the €18m purchase option.
As things stand, the 24-year-old will return to Burnley and has to sort out his future.
Blick reports the Switzerland international won’t be short of options as several Bundesliga clubs are keen on signing him this summer. Journalist Stefan Kreis covered this report, and he doesn’t seem to be a fan of Burnley, either as a club or a town.
He says that apart from The Royal Dyche pub, the English city has ‘nothing to offer’, and is ‘a place of gloom’. Kreis claims this is the reason multiple Burnley players prefer to live in Manchester, but then the same is true of players from clubs across the North West in recent years, including Liverpool.
The journalist adds Amdouni didn’t regret joining Benfica, sarcastically stating that’s because Lisbon ‘offers a slightly better quality of life than Burnley’.
The Clarets invested €18m to buy Amdouni from Basel in 2023 and requested the same figure from Benfica. Blick suspect they are likely to ask the same price if other clubs approach them for the forward.
Apart from the transfer fee, he has a ‘Premier League salary’ and his suitors can’t match it. The report states the player could stay at Turf Moor, where he has a contract until 2028.
It’s unclear whether Scott Parker wants to include Amdouni in his plans next season. Blick believe the club wanted to retain him last season, but he wasn’t keen on playing in the Championship.
