Last month, it was suggested on more than one occasion that Manchester United were keen on using Joshua Zirkzee in an attempt to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli.

One of the reports suggested that Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, was of interest to multiple clubs but that Manchester United were keen to offer the Dutch striker plus cash to sign the Nigerian.

That claim has now been rubbished in Italy, with Paolo del Genio having spoken about the possibility of Osimhen heading to Old Trafford in a deal that includes 23-year-old Zirkzee.

The journalist said, as relayed by AreaNapoli: “I’ll go out on a limb and say that this is nothing more than a market lie.

“There is no chance, at the moment, that the striker now at Manchester United could end up at the court of mister Antonio Conte in the possible negotiations between the Red Devils and the Neapolitans for Victor Osimhen.”

Zirkzee scoring a brace for Manchester United against Everton on Sunday shows that things could be back on track for him at Old Trafford.

There is still more work to do for the striker but the fact that Ruben Amorim used him shows that the new manager has some plans for the Dutchman.

More of the same can make sure that Zirkzee carves out a place in Amorim’s first team.
