Benjamin Nygren has enjoyed a good start at Celtic since joining them from Nordsjælland in the summer window. The Sweden international has scored three times and registered one assist from seven games for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The winger, who can also operate in midfield, is currently with his national team for the ongoing international break.
Sportbladet sat down for a chat with the Celtic summer signing and part of the interview was related to his move to Glasgow.
The 24-year-old has explained the Scottish club’s appeal, their fans and the opportunity to play in Europe are among the reasons why he picked Brendan Rodgers’ side.
“I felt that Celtic ticked most if not all the boxes. A really big club that has 60,000 fans every single match. There is a lot of focus on the club, which plays in Europe and is the best team in the league,” he said.
According to Sportbladet, he had interest from the Bundesliga and rejected two German clubs to join Celtic. This has now been confirmed by the player, without revealing the details.
“I don’t know if there’s much more to say. There were a lot of clubs that were interested,” Nygren explained.
When asked was it easy for him to turn down these clubs in favour of Celtic, he added: “Of course, I thought back and forth. There were other good options too. But Celtic had everything I was looking for.”
The versatile player has indicated the former Liverpool boss played a role in his decision to pick Celtic. The positive feeling he had after a chat with Brendan Rodgers was key.
“He’s a coach I got a very good feeling from and that was also very important. We talked before I signed. I got a very good feeling. Partly that he wanted me in, but also how he is as a person and leader. Tactically, I felt that it would suit me well,” the Swede said.
