Christian Eriksen gets linked with big clubs every summer transfer window, but it hardly gains momentum, but it’s no surprise the Tottenham Hotspur star’s name is once again linked with Barcelona.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Danish international is eager to know if the Catalan club are interested in signing him, especially with Andres Iniesta leaving the club after the end of the season.
Eriksen has received offers from Barcelona in the past through agents, but he wants his representatives to confirm directly with the La Liga winners if they would be interested in signing him.
The former Ajax star’s current deal at Tottenham runs down in 2020 and he’s already admitted that it would be difficult to say no to Barcelona.
“I still have a contract with Tottenham for a few more seasons (until 2020). There are always rumours about footballers and I am one of them. Barca is a great club and I do not think there are many players who can say no to Barca,” Eriksen told the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.
The “staff” at Barcelona believe Eriksen could fit in well with Ernesto Valverde’s system. However, they already signed Philippe Coutinho in January and he will fill in the void left by Iniesta. In addition to this, they have also agreed a deal with Gremio for Arthur.
Barcelona are also expected to sign Antoine Griezmann, who will join Lionel Messi , Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele in the attack.
It doesn’t look like Barcelona are crying out for the Tottenham player, but Mundo Deportivo have asked their readers if they think he’d fit in at the club, and 97% (at the time of writing, over 2000 votes) have said yes.
Eriksen’s curiosity makes some sense. Given all the claims from Denmark, going back years, talking up a move to Barcelona, it would be no surprise if he wants to know, for sure, if there’s anything really in it.
Just don’t tell the Danish press, they’d get a week’s worth of Eriksen to Barcelona out of this.
