Juan Mata was expected to leave Manchester United after the arrival of Jose Mourinho, but there doesn’t seem to be any urgency to ship him out of Old Trafford.
The Spaniard played a part in the Community Shield match against Leicester City, and was taken off 30 minutes after coming on, with Mourinho explaining he needed more height for the dying minutes.
According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf in their Wednesday edition, Everton could be a possibility for the former Chelsea star, and the player could now also want to leave Manchester United.
De Telegraaf are looking at things from a Ronald Koeman perspective, covering his transfer business and possible recruits.
Everton have planned three signings after the departure of John Stones, and Juan Mata is as good a link as any.
The Merseyside club are hoping to complete the three signings in the ‘coming days’, and it’d be interesting to see if Mata signs for a third club in England.
Jose Mourinho made it quite clear after the Community Shield match that Mata has a role to play in the upcoming season, and is not expecting him to ask to leave.
Last summer De Telegraaf claimed Louis van Gaal was set to present three new Manchester United signings within a few days, and Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian were duly presented.
