Over in Algeria, the news that Manchester City are still interested in Riyad Mahrez is important, as they see it as the just reward for their national team treasure.
The past few days have seen a number of sources, some more believable than others, report that their January attempt to sign the Leicester City star wasn’t just a one off, and Pep Guardiola would still like to work with him.
While we’re sure the pay rise any move to the Etihad will include will be one of the reasons why the move would be enticing for Mahrez, the opportunity to compete for trophies on a regular basis is likely to be the key factor in any decision the 27-year-old.
That’s why it’s no surprise to see Le Buteur on Friday report that, were it solely up to him, the Foxes’ forward ‘would sign for Manchester City tomorrow’.
Unfortunately, that isn’t how it works, and the Premier League champions will have to show Leicester the money in order to get their man in the summer.
For the Algerian outlet, that is likely to happen before the start of the World Cup, with the deal potentially sealed before Russia kick off the international competition in mid-June.
Exciting times.
