Leander Dendoncker to West Ham was one of the more frustrating rumours of the transfer window.
It was clear there was something in the claims, and the player himself was eager to make the move, but West Ham didn’t move in early enough for Anderlecht’s liking and when they did it was both too late and not enough money.
There’s no reason why West Ham won’t make another move for the player in the summer window, they have the same manager in David Moyes and Dendoncker is still the same player.
Actually, his form is taking a turn for the better. At times this season the youngster has been on the end of all kinds of over the top pressure and criticism in Belgium, but he’s now getting praise for a good performance against Club Brugge at the weekend.
DH give him 8/10 and call Dendoncker’s birthday (he turned 23 years of age on Sunday) performance ‘conquering’.
The next piece of good news for West Ham is Anderlecht’s Luc Devroe speaking openly about the player’s potential exit. The Belgian club have signed Ukrainian midfielder Yevhen Makarenko, and Devroe said: “It’s a profile we were looking for knowing that Dendoncker and Trebel are in danger of leaving, we had to get ready.”
Everything is being geared up for a transfer, with the player thought to have an assurance he can leave for around €15m.
If they can, it may be worth West Ham getting this one sorted out early.
