With Paul Pogba well on his way to being a Manchester United player (he’s currently having a medical), Juventus will now be looking for a replacement, preferably one with some experience.

The Italian press have been linking a few names, such as Nemanja Matic, Luiz Gustavo or even Paris Saint-Germain’s Blaise Matuidi, meaning when we saw a report in England claiming they were interested in Nabil Bentaleb, we were a bit surprised.

Football Insider are the ones with the claims, stating Juventus are ‘closely monitoring Bentaleb as they look to fill the central midfield void left by Manchester United-bound Paul Pogba’.

Losing one of the integral parts of their team, as well as having Claudio Marchisio sidelined for the foreseeable future, you would expect the Serie A champions to be aiming a little higher.

This isn’t a dig at Bentaleb, as when he broke through at White Hart Lane he certainly performed, but his injury problems and inability to convince Mauricio Pochettino leads us to believe a move to Juventus seems unlikely.

The Algerian midfielder certainly doesn’t fall in the same bracket as the players linked by the Italian press so far, and if there was real interest, you’d expect them to know about it by now.

Then again, if all else fails, Bentaleb could be an option, but we somehow doubt it’ll come to that.
