Back in October, when David Moyes was being appointed manager of West Ham, claims came from Spain of talks with Quique Sánchez Flores.
Catalan newspaper Sport reported West Ham’s owners actually wanted to appoint Flores instead of Moyes, but there was no way he’d leave Espanyol midway through the season (which then also stopped a Stoke City move).
Therefore, eyes turned to the summer, with Sport saying West Ham believed Flores could replace Moyes at the end of the season.
It all seemed a bit elaborate, already thinking about replacing a manager as he’s being eased into the job. But, this is West Ham, and anything can happen.
The manager is specifically looking for a job in the Premier League, which would bring the West Ham opportunity back to the table.
Should West Ham and Moyes part ways in the summer then Quique Sánchez Flores looks a good bet to take over.
But if the manager is tired of promises being broken over investment, then perhaps becoming a Hammer isn’t the best way forward.
