Manchester United losing to Sevilla in such a manner this week was always going to lead to two things from the Spanish media.
Firstly, there’d be countless articles tearing Jose Mourinho to shreds and settling scores dating back to the manager’s time at Real Madrid.
Secondly, Manchester United dropping out of the Champions League in such a way would be presented as a reason for David de Gea to leave the club in the next window.
Mundo Deportivo have both in their Thursday edition.
On the Manchester United goalkeeper it’s claimed Florentino Perez will not forget De Gea, and still feels there’s unfinished business after the failed transfer in the summer of 2015.
Real Madrid are going to sign a goalkeeper this summer and Mundo say De Gea is first placed on the list. Manchester United obviously don’t want to let the player go, and Mourinho is presented as being especially keen in that regard, but it’s claimed ‘everything changed’ this week and now the transfer is closer.
De Gea is disappointed and has doubts about Manchester United’s progress on the pitch. It’s also claimed the Premier League club haven’t seriously moved forward over a new contract for the player.
Manchester United are said to want €100m for De Gea, and Real Madrid would try to get that figure down.
There doesn’t appear to be anything especially new here, but the goalkeeper being disappointed is natural, whether he’s disappointed enough to consider his future is quite another thing.
