Brazilian midfielder Fred continues to speak about Manchester City’s interest in signing him in the January window and going further forwards.
Even though players normally prefer not to talk about it, especially if the transfer may still happen, the Shakhtar star doesn’t see a problem in telling all the details of the winter negotiations.
Speaking to ESPN Brasil this week, Fred has given a long interview about his career, the national team and his future. So the possibility of playing in the Premier League was obviously included.
Asked about the interest from Manchester City Fred told ESPN Brasil: “It existed, yes, and it still exists. There was a process now in the winter window, and they even made a proposal for Shakhtar, but it didn’t happen because of the Champions (League), since I could not play for another team. But there was, yes (an offer).”
“Guardiola did not talk to me, but there were people from City who talked to my agent. Unfortunately it did not work out, but now I’m focused here, out of the window we try to forget and focus on football. In the middle of the year, we wait to see what will happen.”
Then there was another question about his desire to play in the Premier League. That’s when he made it clear that Manchester City are not his only option.
“Of course yes. I would evolve. City are a great team, I would be happy to play there… or at Manchester United as well, at Chelsea, Arsenal, clubs of great tradition in Europe and England. It is the best league in the world, I have no doubt, and I believe that my football would evolve.
“I’m still 25, there’s a lot to grow and learn, play and observe great players of these clubs. That would help a lot, learn by watching them. I’m sure that I will evolve in the future and that my agents will help me a lot to make the best decision possible, so that in the next window I am at a Premier League club.”
Earlier this month, the manager of the Brazilian national team, Tite, has also revealed that Pep Guardiola has asked about Fred in a personal conversation.
