Signed by Leeds United from Gamba Osaka for just over £500k in January, Yosuke Ideguchi was, the next day, shipped out to CyD Leonesa in La Liga2 for the rest of the season to get some game time.
So far, he’s made just five appearances for the small Spanish club, all from the bench, as he slowly gets used to life in a new country where the culture can be very difficult to adapt to.
Explaining to Marca he’s struggling the most with the time at which Spaniards eat (a lot later than in other parts of the world), the Leeds loanee is also needing a translator to follow him around to communicate with members of his new club.
However, the fact some of his new teammates are making a specific effort to get to know him has helped him settle a bit, which he’s very grateful for.
As for the football side of things, the man those at Elland Road will hope will be able to get a work permit down the line to play for the Championship club, he’s also having to deal with some change.
He said: “I’m having to get used to the tactical aspects of the team, related to keeping possession of the football”.
Perhaps being followed everywhere by the Japanese press, who are monitoring his progress and story closely, isn’t helping, even though he says it’s an extra motivation.
