With Barcelona preparing to face Chelsea for the Champions League tonight, each newspaper has its own way of previeweing the match.
What Spanish outlet El Confidencial decided to do this morning was to talk about Chelsea’s controversial situation, with manager Antonio Conte being on the verge of leaving the club.
Most of what the outlet writes isn’t exactly new for those who follow Chelsea daily. They recall the situation involving Diego Costa, who was told he could leave right after last season’s league title, and how things have gone downhill since then.
They believe situation is not tense only between the manager and players, but between Conte and the board as well. More specifically with Marina Granovskaia.
The story reports ‘serious clashes’ between them, and ‘the tension growing’ in the club’s administration as Granovskaia already looks for a man to replace the Italian boss.
The reason why Conte and Granovskaia ‘collide with virulence’ is the club’s transfer politics. Their coexistence is said to be ‘impossible’ at the club, and that’s also the reason why executive Michael Emenalo has left Chelsea for Monaco after over 10 years working at the London side.
With Granovskaia being Abramovich’s woman of trust at the club, it seems there are not many people left at Chelsea who Conte can have a peaceful relationship with.
