A couple of days ago, French website La Provence reported Marseille are interested in singing 25 year old Newcastle United midfielder Henri Saivet.
Contacts have already been established between Jean-Philippe Durand, head of Marseille’s recruitment cell, Gunter Jacob, Marseille’s brand new sporting director, and Henri Saivet’s representatives.
Today, La Provence say negotiations are ongoing to sign Saivet, and that Gunter Jacob, Marseille’s sporting director, is hoping to finalise a deal before August 14th.
Marseille play their first league game against on August 14th, and they would want to sign the former Bordeaux player before that.
The 25-year-old has failed to force himself into Rafael Benitez’s plans, and managed just 147 minutes of playing time last season.
Saivet signed for Newcastle six months ago in a £5m deal, and has another five years left on his contract.
