Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has been linked with a move away from Liverpool in the last couple of years, but injuries to other players means the club had to keep him to provide cover.
The situation is same this summer as well. Lucas now has another year left on his contract at Liverpool, and was expected to leave for Galatasaray, but injuries to other players means Klopp might want to keep him as a cover.
Reports in England suggest Klopp will only sanction the sale of Lucas at the end of the transfer window if he feels he has enough options in his squad.
However, reports in the Turkish media tell you a different story. According to Turkish journalist Gökmen Özdemir, who also works for Lig TV, Lucas Leiva is on the top of Galatasaray’s wishlist this summer.
Apparently, Galatasaray officials were in England yesterday to negotiate a deal for Lucas, and were hoping to finalise it.
Galatasaray, however, failed to agree a transfer fee with Liverpool, and Özdemir believes a transfer isn’t going to be easy.
This is despite there being other reports in Turkey this week which claimed Liverpool had already the move, and a medical was due.
Liverpool have plenty of options in midfield, so the Brazilian could still leave in the next few days if the injury situation changes at the club.
