With Bordeaux frequently sending messages saying Malcom is not for sale this month, it seems that Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to another young Brazilian who’s having a promising start in Europe.
According to Goal Brasil on Tuesday, Spurs now have David Neres, from Ajax, as the second name on the list. The London side would be ready to spend between €40m and €50m for the player, and have already made the first contacts for the signing in the last week.
But it doesn’t mean that the Spurs have given up on Malcom, especially after his representatives got excited when meeting Mauricio Pochettino. The difference now is there’s a plan b.
Tottenham may not have to go as high as €50m for Neres, but Ajax will likely do their upmost to get as much money out of Spurs as possible, as they did with Davinson Sanchez in the summer.
Now Neres may not be a fancy player in Europe yet, but his start is just as promising as Malcom’s, and it wouldn’t be absurd to say he’s just as talented as the Bordeaux player.
Signed by Ajax from São Paulo in a €12m deal an year ago, Neres didn’t take long to conquer a spot in the team, and even came on as a sub in the Europa League final against Manchester United.
This season, for example, Neres has nine goals and twelve assists in 23 games for Ajax. His stats are superior to Malcom’s who has seven goals and six assists in the same number of games for Bordeaux so far.
With both players having the exact same age, it looks like the kind of bet that only the future will tell the result.
