With so many talented youngsters at La Masia and so few places in their first-team for them to breakthrough, Barcelona are having to devise new plans to help them grow and get first-team football.
That comes in two options: either sell them and insert a buy-back clause (like Denis Suarez) or loan them out to a smaller Liga BBVA side (like Alen Halilovic).
The latest young midfielder to be considered for this is 21-year-old defensive midfielder Sergi Samper, who is unfortunately blocked from first-team action by a certain Sergio Busquets.
Not wanting to let his undeniable talent go to waste, the Catalan club are looking at the potential options available to him at this present time.
However, as good as those options are, there is another possibility that seems to attract him more than the others, and that is to join up with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
The former Bayern manager could reportedly ask for the youngster, but Barcelona aren’t too keen on the idea as they know he will only have a backup role in their squad, rotation at best.
This would certainly hinder his amount of first-team, but the prospect of learning under Pep Guardiola is not experience to be denied to a young player.
Before any of this happens, though, Barcelona have a major issue to contend with, and that is renewing the player’s contract, currently running out at the end of the month.
Priorities and all that.
