Joining Fenerbahce after the close of most European transfer windows, Janssen made a decent start after arriving from parent club Tottenham.
The forward got off to a good start, and things looked very promising for the 23 year old. However, his situation has changed in recent weeks, and the Dutchman has now come in for flak in the Turkish media.
Fenerbahce have picked up two points in their last two games, against Kayserispor and Osmanlıspor, which has resulted in the Turkish press criticising the Tottenham loanee, along with several of his teammates.
Star say Janssen is working very hard for his team, but he’s been unable to convert chances, a familiar story to last season with Tottenham. Like Fenerbahce, the Netherlands international isn’t having much luck at the moment, and hasn’t scored since the end of September, which is now a run of five games.
Janssen’s move to Fenerbache was intended to kickstart his career after his struggles at Tottenham last season, but it seems this isn’t going to plan.
The Turkish media, just like everywhere, can be over the top in both praise and criticism, and Janssen has already seen both sides of that.
Unable to convince Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, the young striker will be determined to make a success of his loan in Turkey. Right now there’s no other choice, because, having played for Tottenham this season, Janssen wouldn’t be able to join a third club.
Daniel Levy received criticism in the Netherlands at the close of the transfer window for trying to pressure Janssen to join West Brom or Brighton. Levy will now be hoping Janssen can regain form in Turkey, so his potential transfer value doesn’t fall further.
