If the Belgian media thought there was anything seriously in Michel Preud’homme to Rangers right now then it would be getting more coverage than it actually is.

Largely ignored by the newspapers, who have big sport sections daily, the idea of Preud’homme taking charge at Ibrox would be an attractive one. The whole Celtic connection would be dragged up and the Belgian media, like many around the world before them, would grow excitement at the idea of a leading role in the rivalry.

HLN touch upon it, but it’s more a case of what is being reported by the UK media about Rangers, rather than direct information. It’s felt that if Rangers can’t get a Brit then they’ll widen the net, giving a chance to Preud’homme and others. But then surely they can find a Brit?

Rangers beat Hearts 3-1 at the weekend, with two goals from the returning Kenny Miller, and another from Josh Windass. Graeme Murty is settling the side well ahead of a new man being named, but right now it’s unlikely that new man will be Preud’homme… unless other tracks lead to nothing.

The rumours may have started from the Belgian’s camp, with managing Rangers in the Scottish Premiership perhaps a more enticing prospect than potentially taking over at KV Mechelen.
