There’s a theme running through the Spanish sport newspapers on Wednesday, and it’s not simply what a good performance Tottenham put in at the Bernabeu.

Whilst a draw was almost certainly the correct result, Tottenham didn’t look second best to Real Madrid and gave the Champions League double winners several frights throughout the match… including taking the lead.

Hugo Lloris made some important saves, and Keylor Navas matched him, with a standout stop from Harry Kane in the second half. And it’s those two men who are receiving the most praise in the Spanish media on Wednesday.

Marca, as with most of the sport outlets in Spain, named the goalkeepers the best players of each team.

Hugo Lloris ‘saved his team when Spurs were overcome’, say Marca, who add that Navas ‘ended up saving his team from defeat’.

Navas takes the front page of AS, and is joined by Lloris as they’re both celebrated on Marca’s front page.

The Spanish newspaper then dedicate several pages to singing the praises of both men, with headlines like ‘The goalkeepers who stop shooters’ and ‘two bricks walls’.

Unsurprisingly, L’Equipe named Hugo Lloris their Man of the Match, with the French newspaper giving their national captain 8/10 and Navas 7/10.

The night of the goalkeepers, and a really good game.
