Hamburg manager Markus Gisdol has told the German media he’s convinced his side can start scoring again, as the club’s chronic problems continue.
The Bundesliga side’s failings could again raise question whether it was right to allow Pierre-Michel Lasogga to join Leeds United in the summer, and the club’s sporting director Jen Todt last week suggested the player could return to Germany.
Gisdol’s job at Hamburg is under threat, with the German side hovering just above the relegation zone, having scored just six goals in the opening eight games.
Their poor run of form has coincided with Lasogga heading for Leeds United, but Gisdol has told Hamburger Morgenpost he expects his side to start scoring again. “I can only say that I am working a lot from morning until night. I am convinced that we will get the team to score again.”
However, given Todt’s comments and a lack of goals this season, a return to the Bundesliga could happen for Lasogga next summer. The Hamburg chief said they’ll see how the forward goes this season at Leeds United, and that they hope he regains his confidence while playing in England.
The 25 year old hit the ground running when he joined Leeds United in the last summer window, scoring three goals in five games. It’s led to some Hamburg fans urging the player to come back to Germany, with others calling the coaching staff incompetent for not getting the best out of him.
