Former Celtic forward Jorge Cadete has told the Portuguese media playing for the Scottish Premier League side made up the “golden years” of his career.
Cadete still holds the record for goals scored in a debut season for Celtic, which was threatened last season by Brendan Rodgers’ star attacker Moussa Dembele.
In an interview with Atasca do Cherba, Cadete was asked about his time at Celtic Park: “Although I stayed only 13 months in Scotland, it was my golden years. In 47 games I scored 38 goals. I can say that it’s now been 22 years and people continue to treat me in an incredible way.
“I reactivated the page of my soccer academy and there was a Scottish fan who shared his on Facebook page, and in two days I had 1500 more followers.”
Cadete scored nearly 40 goals during his time with Celtic, but his record of finding the net 33 times in his debut season came under threat last season from Dembele.
Dembele had scored 32 goals in 33 games for the Scottish Premier League champions with 12 games remaining, but injury meant he missed out on passing Cadete.
Due to his family becoming unsettled in Scotland, Cadete decided to quit Celtic, and joined Spanish side Celta Vigo in 1997.
