Romelu Lukaku has had a great start to his life at Manchester United, and down at Chelsea, Alvaro Morata is also getting off to a great start at his new club.
It could of course have been very different, with each at the other club. And whilst all kinds of stances will be taken, and subsequently lies be told, on who preferred who, when, and why, that both are doing well has helped dilute things a little.
Speaking to Belgium’s HLN, Romelu Lukaku’s father, Roger, was asked straight out: Did he advise his son to join Manchester United over Chelsea?
Lukaku senior, who had previously mentioned a move to Manchester United, passed all the credit over to Mino Raiola: “No. Romelu has a manager, who manages his business well. I hope they made the right choice.”
Lukaku’s good understanding with Mourinho at Manchester United was given as one of the reasons for the player’s success so far, and it’s clear the manager is playing an important part in his star striker’s career.
On the pitch, Roger believes there’s still a lot more to come from Romelu, and explained: “He can still grow, I only expect him to be there in a year or two. Then 60 to 70 percent must be 90 to 95 percent. We will see a lot towards the end of this season when United in the Champions League will only face big teams. Then you recognise big clubs and big players.”
