This week former Arsenal player Gary Goodchild revealed he’ll be heading up Wolverhampton Wanderers’ scouting network in Scandinavia, and that he’s already begun to search for talent in Sweden.
One notable player who could be an option for Wolves is IFK Norrköping defender Linus Wahlqvist, who in the past 18 months has been linked with a move to England.
Wolves’ Championship rivals Leeds United are one of the clubs reported to have shown a keen interest in the right back, along with Stoke City.
Wahlqvist is highly rated in Sweden, and despite being only 20 years old he’s been a regular in IFK’s senior team in recent seasons. Throughout last season Wahlqvist was continually linked with a move abroad, an option the youngster said he hoped to take up in the near future.
With 20 years’ experience working in Scandinavia it’s likely Goodchild will be aware of the credentials of Wahlqvist, and if Wolves are to recruit from Sweden the young defender could be a possibility.
Leeds United have already tried to sign the young defender, making an approach for Wahlqvist last summer. Throughout last season Leeds United continued to be linked with the youngster in the Swedish media, and the player has on several occasions spoken about his future at IFK.
However, with the change in ownership at Leeds United this summer speculation has gone quiet in recent months over a move to Elland Road.
