It’s fair to say Rafael Benitez and Marco Materazzi don’t get on. The retired Inter Milan legend was a big fan of Jose Mourinho and was famously seen hugging the then departing Inter manager, with both seemingly having tears in their eyes.
Therefore, a great relationship with Benitez was perhaps hoping for too much, and it didn’t materialise. The two men, mainly Materazzi, have since sent each other several snipes via the European media.
Materazzi had it put to him that his ‘friend’ Benitez has been having a good period with Newcastle United, with three wins then followed by a loss. The former defender couldn’t help but snipe, and said: “I would like to see it there in two years.”
Materazzi would like nothing more than for Newcastle to fall to pieces and be relegated, just so he can laugh at his ‘friend’ Benitez.
