After suffering a sophomore slump in his second season at Manchester United, Anthony Martial is back, and he’s making sure everyone knows it.
Picking up a goal and three assists against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night, the French winger terrorised the Russian side’s defence with his speed and dribbling ability.
However, it seems his strong start to the season, sharing left winger duties with Marcus Rashford, wasn’t quite enough to convince Didier Deschamps to pick him in his France squad this time around, as the former Juventus midfielder explained to the press, relayed by FootMercato.
He said: “He’s a player who’s probably better when he starts than when he comes on. A bit like Lacazette. All 24 players want to start. Anthony is much better, he’s decisive. The last game highlights what he can do.
“He’s getting back to a good level. He’s more used by Mourinho. He could have been in the squad. It’s a choice. He was there during the Euro, he went through a tough time, which he got over. I can only tell him to continue to make me think about him”.
Barely used by Deschamps during the tournament in his home country back in 2016, the French winger was also going through some personal issues, which appear to now be behind him.
With five goals and five assists in eight appearances so far, if Martial continues this form, Deschamps could end up with a real dilemma on his hands.
A good one, but a dilemma nonetheless.
