Perhaps expected to go somewhere than Celtic Park during the summer, Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts ended up returning to Scotland for a second loan spell.

While many thought the 20-year-old might be given a chance by Pep Guardiola this year, the acquisition of Bernardo Silva all but put an end to that.

Clearly highly rated by Brendan Rodgers, Roberts, who has four goals in nine England U20 games already, has once again demonstrated his talent this season, casually picking up both assists in a 2-0 away win against arch rivals Rangers at the weekend.

With the English starlet expected to start on Wednesday night against Anderlecht in Celtic’s second Champions League game of the season, Het Nieuwsblad decided to go have a chat with Logan Bailly, who spent two seasons at Celtic Park, to find out what he had to stay about the young forward, and it’s fair to say the winger left a strong impression.

He said: “Roberts is a phenomenon. The future of English football. He’s on loan from Manchester City for the second year in a row now. Small and lightweight, technically very strong. He is left-footed, but plays on the right. He always comes inside with the ball”.

While we’ll have to wait and see to find out whether Logan Bailly’s words come true, the 20-year-old’s talent and potential is there for all to see.

It’s now up to him fulfil it.
