Since his £31.5m move from Benfica to Manchester United last summer, Victor Lindelof’s squad status has changed a lot in terms of importance.
The player had been the leader of Benfica’s defense in the last season, and is now working to convince José Mourinho he deserves a starting spot in his new team, having not able to do so after nine games.
Lindelof hasn’t even debuted in the Premier League yet, and only made only three appearances: one in the UEFA Super Cup, another in the Champions League, and the last one in the EFL Cup.
The manager was asked if he’s worried that the defender hasn’t been getting many minutes, and said: “It’s a frustration thing in this job. I can not influence anything. It is clear that over time, I want all our players to play as much as possible, as well as possible”.
“So it’s a little unfortunate. But we see he has played some matches. We hope that he will be even closer to the team”.
Lindelof has 14 official appearantes for Sweden, all of them as a starter. It’s unlikely that he would lose this position now, but it would obviously be better for the national team if he was playing regularly for such a top club.
