Always planning for the future, whether he’ll be at Arsenal or not, Arsène Wenger cannot help but keep an eye on what goes on in France.

Constantly linked with the next big thing in his home country, the latest name the Gunners are said to be after is Christopher Rocchia, Marseille’s young left-back.

Yet to sign a professional contract with the Ligue 1 side, the 19-year-old’s situation is becoming a bit of a problem for Rudi Garcia and co., as Arsenal aren’t the only Premier League side circling around the youngster.

Both Watford and Crystal Palace are said to be after the young defender, with the Hornets even going as far as texting Rocchia’s entourage in order to convince him to move to Vicarage Road.

FootMercato, who have been pushing this story since the beginning, are the ones now claiming Arsenal are providing stiff competition for Marco Silva’s side, as Gilles Grimandi is said to have got in touch with the youngster’s representatives towards the end of the transfer window.

Available on a free in the summer if he doesn’t commit in the next nine months or so, an interesting battle could break out for Christopher Rocchia.

While more likely to play at Watford, the prestige of moving to Arsenal at such a young age at a position where, if Nacho Monreal moves on, first-team opportunities could arise as Sead Kolasinac’s backup should he see off competition from Joshua Da Silva, who has been playing there for their U23s.
